Back to the Classics 2021

Hooray, Back to the Classics, hosted by Karen at Books and Chocolate is still going strong!  You can check out all the rules at the sign-up post, but here are the categories:

1. A 19th century classic: any book first published from 1800 to 1899

2. A 20th century classic: any book first published from 1900 to 1971. All books must have been published at least 50 years ago; the only exceptions are books which were written by 1971 and posthumously published.

3. A classic by a woman author.

4. A classic in translation, meaning any book first published in a language that is not your primary language. You may read it in translation or in its original language, if you prefer.

5. A classic by BIPOC author; that is, a non-white author.

6. A classic by a new-to-you author, i.e., an author whose work you have never read.

7. New-to-you classic by a favorite author -- a new book by an author whose works you have already read.

8. A classic about an animal, or with an animal in the title. The animal can be real or metaphorical. (i.e., To Kill a Mockingbird).

9. A children's classic.

10. A humorous or satirical classic.

11. A travel or adventure classic (fiction or non-fiction). It can be a travelogue or a classic in which the main character travels or has an adventure.

12. A classic play. Plays will only count in this category.

Now, a lot of people write out a list ahead of time, which they may or may not stick to.  I like to just see what fits as I go along, and then fill in the gaps as necessary.  So no list for me, but Cleo mentioned that she might read The Leopard, and I've been meaning to read The Leopard.  Maybe I'll join her.

  1. I owe you a buddy read, a hug and a new car for not finishing The Golden Bough with you (I am still reading The Mysteries of Udolpho though and am about 70% finished --- slow and steady wins the race, and all that!) So if we read The Leopard together I'm in and will read it and will finish it. It's a promise. Now I just have to find my copy ........

Love your new blog look, BTW and especially the cute little guy at the top!

  4. I'm not very good at picking books in advance, but The Leopard is a good idea--it's on my Classics Club list and I've been not reading it for years now. Can't wait to see what else you read; you always seem to find books I've not heard of.

  5. Hey you have a new design! Light and fun, I like it.

I'll look forward to diving into these new categories. I do usually pick out books I think I'll read but I never stick to them!
