20 Books of Summer!

It's that time of year again, when we start to plan for 20 Books of Summer!  The rules are as simple as can be; pick your goal number, and try to read them between June 1 - September 1.  Cathy at 746Books is the host.  And here's my list: 20 books plus two alternates since I am a weirdo.

  1. Oh, should I do 20 books of summer? The one time I tried I failed miserably. But maybe it would help me get through some of the TBR... You have a couple of old favorites on your list (The Pushcart War and My Cousin Rachel) as well a goodly number I've never heard of and that sound irresistibly exotic (Wondrous Journeys in Strange Lands) or mysteriously intriguing (Codependent Discipleship ?!?) Good luck with the project!

    1. Would you believe I've never read the Pushcart War, even though my all-time favorite picture book is also by Jean Merrill? We've had a copy for years but I've never read it myself. Terrible. And, join me!

    2. I loved The Pushcart War as a kid but I have not read it for years! I assume it holds up today since NYRB chose it as a classic to reprint. I will think about joining this. I might just call it "Some books of summer" because I'm not sure about committing even to 10. But I think that's OK.

    3. It's definitely OK! As befits a summer challenge, it's relaxed and laid back. I like 'Some books of summer'!

Pushcart War must hold up, because I regularly see people waxing rhapsodic about it.

  2. Thanks! I've enjoyed a few du Mauriers and I hear this is a really good one.
