BBAW Day 5: Burnout?

It's the last day of Book Blogger Appreciation Week, hosted by the Estella Society.  Final question: One of the unfortunate side effects of reading and blogging like rockstars seems to be a tendency toward burnout. How do you keep things fresh on your blog and in your reading?

Yeah, I have to take a week or two off sometime, and I'm not even one of those rockstar bloggers!  It's not easy to come up with posts all the time.

Generally a new event or fun little activity will get me back on the bicycle.  March Magics is guaranteed to get me writing, or one of those goofy little questionnaires that go around.  The new year is always invigorating too.

It's pretty rare for me to hit a reading slump, where I'm not reading something.  If I do it's generally a sign that I've picked two or three long, difficult books and have forgotten to put in anything lighter and more fun.  Bringing in a book that really grabs me will fix that.

Thanks to the Estella Society for hosting a fun week!

  1. A new activity or new kind of post will often reenergize me too. I'm feeling disproportionately pleased about a review post I have coming up in March -- I rarely write about nonfiction, and I'm glad I was able to think of a fun way to do it for this one.

  2. I will look forward to it!

(Meanwhile, I have accidentally deleted yesterday's post. So I'm feeling kind of dumb.)

  3. That's me too--usually when I hit a reading slump it's because I am reading the wrong book. I have minor ones when I can't decide what to read next, but I usually can figure my way out of those quickly. It's worst when I've just finished a great book.

I hope you have a great weekend! (Love the blog name, by the way.)

  4. I agree! Taking time off can help so much. I usually take a week or two off around Christmas and then if I feel frustrated by blogging, I try not to feel bad about not posting for a while.

  5. I'm glad you're excited about next month's event! I just wrote the kickoff post that will go up on Tuesday and put place holders for all of the scheduled events/topics and now I wish it was starting today! I even have my book stack sitting in my library waiting impatiently. :) I definitely blog more in March than any other month.
