I was surprised that even after the war some of the women didn't seem very remorseful. Some of the stories were incredibly moving, though.<br /><br />And I can also relate to your story about Opa -- I was on a summer exchange student in Germany in the 1980s. I know my host mother was in a refugee camp as a child, but I didn't really ask too much about her war experience. I did meet her widowed mother and the host father's parents, but none of them really spoke English and my German was really basic so I never asked.
