She really holds the household together. In fact, I saw little charm in Marianne until only recently when I re-read the book. This time around, I saw the charm of both characters. It's not that I disliked Marianne before...I just thought she was way too silly and melodramatic for her own good. :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01974988315420539840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1817835476996956670.post-31121453719651976742013-04-24T17:32:07.069-07:002013-04-24T17:32:07.069-07:00Oh, I should reread this. She benefits by a reread -- because you're right, she's a completely genius comic writer.

(But still this isn't my favorite of her books. I'm all about Emma.)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1817835476996956670.post-70697225559732618192013-04-23T09:52:03.876-07:002013-04-23T09:52:03.876-07:00I have always found Mariane annoying. The last time I read it though I had a teenage girl of my own living in my house and I was amazed at how well Austen portrays the passions of a teenage girl. Elinor is wonderful. She always has my admiration. She is capable of loving deeply and at the same time is always guided by her good sense.Faithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10169821331076296753noreply@blogger.com
