She's so selfish yet the story is so great that I couldn't stop reading it. I like to think of her as a fascinating trainwreck. <br /><br />I've never been able to figure out the point of her husband's first wife -- why was that included in the story? Great book, though, and I still want to read something else by Flaubert.
